Data's Role in V8 Supercar Racing

With the Gold Coast 600 now in the rear-view mirror and the Auckland SuperSprint on the horizon, it’s a wonder how this year’s racers are making the most out of each round of the championship. We had the chance to sit down with Todd Hazelwood from Matt Stone Racing to find out what role data plays in their teams’ ability to prepare for each round.

What role does data play in your team’s preparation?

"Data is a massive part motorsport for us, it’s an integral part of being successful and getting race results and putting everything together. Without data, we would simply not be able to go racing.

As far as preparation, we analyse everything from the data, which can include comparing notes from one driver to another, engineer to engineer and we analyse everything, overlay data and work out how we can improve the race car to go faster and improve our results."

Data’s Role in Today’s Market

Data isn’t just valuable to V8 supercar racers and their teams. It’s a valuable resource for organisations regardless of size or industry.

Just recently NetApp shared an insight into how monumental the shift to becoming a data-driven business has been. Increasing from a mere 10% of market leaders being data-driven 12 years ago to a staggering 60% as of last year.

Market Leaders are Data Driven

Data is a crucial element for businesses when it comes to high-stakes decision-making. You know these decisions, the ones that go above and beyond day-to-day operations and could ultimately shift the course of a business, or even an industry. Utilising data to make these types of decisions enables organisations and their executives to make better and faster decisions. [1]

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing this shift in data as a business priority for market-leading organisations.

Data is a business priority

Recently a Commvault-sponsored survey was conducted which revealed the following regarding the role data plays:

“IT personnel and executives think that understanding data, from both a management and an analysis perspective, are among the most essential priorities for future businesses’ success”[2]

Executives and IT staff declared in that same survey, that the management and analysis of their data is more essential for business continuity than their quarterly earnings, brand reputation or customer service.

Meaning that moving forward, business outcomes will become more and more reliant on data and an organisation’s ability to effectively make use of it.

Here at Venn IT Solutions, we help organisations take control of their data.
